Mid-Year Retreat
AAUW Morgan Hill Branch Mid-Year Retreat – January 13
Should we modify how the branch operates?
- Term limits for appointed board positions and committee chairs?
- Reduce the size of the board from 18 to 12 positions?
The Bylaws committee recently began considering term limits for appointed board and committee chair positions and reducing the size of the board to have fewer appointed positions. These would be major changes in how the branch operates, so we asked for comments from branch and board members. It became apparent that more time is needed to fully discuss these topics. To this end, a mid-year board retreat has been scheduled for Saturday, January 13, 10:30 am to 3:00 pm. All branch members are welcome to provide input, either in person or by email. It will be held at the Jackson Oaks Clubhouse. 3490 Oak Hill Court. The retreat will be moderated by Sharyn Siebert, AAUW CA director of branch support. Sharyn is a member of the Monterey Peninsula Branch.
Term limits will be the focus of the morning session, 10:30 am -12:30 pm, followed by half hour break for lunch. (Bring your own.) Board composition and structure will be discussed from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Comments and questions should be submitted ahead of time by email no later than Jan. 6 to help the moderator prepare for the event. This would be helpful, even if you plan to attend in person. Send to bylaws@aauwmh.org. Everyone is asked to read this background material on Google Drive ahead of time: Term Limits, Term Limits (member input Oct 2023), and Board Composition, 2024 mid year January retreat – Google Drive. These will provide essential information to inform and direct our discussion.
No decisions will be made at the retreat itself, but the Bylaws committee needs guidance from board and branch members going forward to help determine whether we should consider changes to branch Policies & Procedures.
Sessions will start promptly, so please allow plenty of time to find the location and get settled. Besides your lunch, bring your own water and coffee.
If you have questions or want to reserve a place for either or both sessions, please contact Carol O’Hare, bylaws chair, bylaws@aauwmh.org.
