Sally Gerling moved to the Gilroy area from Modesto in October 2021. She holds a BS in Dietetics from UC Davis and an MS degree in Nutritional Sciences from San Jose State University. She is semi-retired, currently teaching nutrition remotely at Modesto Junior College, as well as running her own consulting business. Sally is interested in networking and supporting the activities of our local AAUW.
Lisa Lorona, a Bay Area native, completed her undergraduate studies at UC Santa Cruz with a major in Psychology and emphasis in Child Development and received her Master’s degree from UC Berkeley. She currently works at the Gilroy Unified School District overseeing the Specialized Programs Department. Lisa enjoys yoga, music and going to the beach.
JoAnne Markowska moved to Santa Clara County from upstate New York in 1995. She has a BS in Business from SUNY Binghamton. She worked for MHUSD for 21 years, starting as a health clerk and, after getting a Master’s in Educational Counseling from SJSU, moved to the Counseling Department. She retired in June, and hearing many great things about AAUW decided she would like to join.

Gail Pellerin has a BS in Journalism from Cal Poly SLO. She first worked in the California State Legislature, then served as the chief elections official and was elected Santa Cruz County Clerk four times. She is now running for State Assembly in District 28. Gail was an active member of AAUW years ago and is looking forward to being part of the MH branch, even though she still lives in Santa Cruz.
Jan Skapik has a BA in Child Development, a teaching credential from SJSU, and an Administrative Credential from National University. She loves her job as a middle school English teacher at San Martin/Gwinn. She heard about AAUW many years ago from a friend of her mother and decided to join now along with her best friend, JoAnne. She is excited to be a new first-time grandma.
Marie Watson has a BA in Psychology from UC Davis and an MA in Counselor Education from San Jose State University. She was a school counselor for 20 years and is currently working toward certification for Life Coaching. Her mother always wanted Marie to join AAUW, but she did not have time until now. She was also encouraged to join by the Fishman sisters.
