Meet Our New Members

These short bios include information about our newest branch members. Please greet them when you get a chance and ask about their various interests and backgrounds.

Susan Gabbard

Susan recently retired from being a survey researcher at JBS International Inc where she ran the National Agricultural Workers Survey and oversaw evaluations of AmeriCorps programs. She loves learning new things and has a BA from Douglass College and an MA in Anthropology from Duke University. She also has MS and PhD degrees from UC Berkeley in Agricultural Economics. Susan received an AAUW scholarship as a college freshman and hopes to pay that forward working with AAUW programs for young women.

Karen George

Karen has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Stanford University and an MBA from UC Irvine.  She is a CPA who did taxes and bookkeeping before retirement. She and her husband recently moved to Morgan Hill from Iowa to be closer to their two daughters and their families. She enjoys art and painting, playing pickleball, reading mysteries, cooking, and traveling.  She is looking forward to being involved with the branch’s programs promoting women.

Lisa Rick

Lisa and her family moved to Morgan Hill in 1992 from San Jose. She was employed by the City of Morgan Hill as the aquatics coordinator from 2012 until she retired in 2022. She has been training her German Shepherd, working toward getting involved with Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy. She also enjoys walking and hiking. She has an AA degree from Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. She was encouraged to join AAUW by her neighbor and branch member, Marian Sacco, and is looking forward to being more involved with community events.

Michelle Stiefel

Michelle has lived all over the western US and in the Bay Area for the past nine years. She has a BS in Environmental Studies from SJ State and is currently working on her MBA at Cal State East Bay. She is an environment, health and safety (EHS) and sustainability consultant. Michelle learned about AAUW at the Earth Day Festival and wanted to join an organization that cared about the planet as much she does.
