NCCWSL

What is NCCWSL?

The National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, NCCWSL, is an AAUW program that brings together 100s of young women from around the country for three days of leadership training, networking and inspiration. This year AAUW MH sponsored the participation of Chinazom Ofobuki, a student at Gavilan College.

Chinazom flew from San Jose on May 30 to the University of Maryland, College Park. The nearly 800 college women leaders were joined by AAUW National staff for three full days of training, designed to ignite future careers and initiate advocacy in the local communities. Included were sessions, seminars, and panels on a variety of topics related to the conference theme, “Engage, Learn and Lead: Step into Your Power.” Chinazom also attended a STEM Workshop and enjoyed an evening in Washington DC.

The keynote speaker was Minda Harts, founder of a career development company for women of color and author of the book, You Are More than Magic: The Black and Brown Girls’ Guide to Finding Your Voice. Attendees were thrilled to receive a signed copy of this 2022 book.

On the final evening, Women of Distinction awards were presented to six incredible young women.  For bios of these winners, go to:

A very tired Chinazom returned to Morgan Hill late June 3, full of stories and loaded with photos. She is very thankful to our branch for this opportunity to attend NCCWSL. You will have a chance to meet her at a future AAUW event and hear first-hand how this program changed her life.
