Membership Update May 2022

Thank you to all who attended the New Member Wine and Whine at 88 Keys on March 16. It was great to see so many members in person. Our current membership is 172.

We are delighted to report that we have nine new members, four of whom are mother/daughter combinations, and two who have rejoined the branch after an absence. Welcome to all new and returning members!

Bobbie (Roberta) Erb attended Santa Clara University, earning a B.S. in Math/Computer Science and an MBA in Business. She is retired. She could use her computer skills to help with Social Media and Newsletter. She could also assist with the 4th of July Parade, Hospitality, Local Scholarships, Tech Trek, Voter Education, and the Wildflower Run. Bobbie expressed interest in Arts Outings, Climate Change, Dining Out, Smart eGals, Wine and Whine, and Social Justice. She joined AAUW to volunteer, have fun, and contribute. She first learned of AAUW when her daughter attended Tech Trek sponsored by the Sunnyvale-Cupertino branch. She moved to MH five years ago and was encouraged to become a member by her friend Suman Ganapathy.

Carmen Garcia, Morgan Hill Unified School District Superintendent, graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in History and Spanish from University of San Diego. With the motivation to teach, she earned an M.A. and a teaching credential. She received her PhD from the University of Southern California. Throughout her 22-year career in education, Dr. García has worked to enhance educational systems to ensure that students remain at the forefront. She believes that a quality education is the world’s greatest equalizer that opens many doors of opportunity.

Liz Panetta Melone holds a B.A. in Humanities/Education from Santa Clara University. She is a certified personal trainer and fitness instructor. Liz could assist with Local Scholarships and the Wildflower Run. She learned about AAUW through the Wildflower Run years ago. Now that her time allows, she has joined our branch. She is impressed by how AAUW brings the community together for a day of fun and fitness at the Run. She’s excited about our local outreach and looks forward to being part of creating a positive difference in our community.

Linda Martinez holds both a B.A. and a Masters in Social Work. She recently retired from Santa Clara County Social Services where she heard wonderful compliments about AAUW. She went to the website and submitted her application. Linda could help with Community Action Grants, Membership, and the Wildflower Run. She expressed interest in Afternoon Books, Arts Outings, and Climate Change groups. She joined AAUW for the opportunity to volunteer and connect.

Amy Martinez, Linda’s daughter, holds a B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management. She is employed full time in real estate. She could assist with Hospitality, Tech Trek, and the Wildflower Run, and is interested in Wine and Whine. Amy had heard about AAUW from her involvement with Leadership MH, so both she and her mother decided to join. She is looking forward to making some new friends.

Katie (Kathryn) Senigaglia received a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from San Jose State University and  an M.S. in Geriatric Kinesiology from A.T. Still University in Arizona. Katie is self-employed part time as a Pilates Instructor. She could assist with the 4th of July Parade, Wildflower Run and leading an interest group. She would like to participate in Afternoon Books, Arts Outings, and Climate Change groups. Katie is a returning member after belonging for a short time in the past. When she moved to her new home at the top of Mt Madonna last year, she found us on the website and rejoined. She is looking for friendships and the opportunity for community service.

Kristin Shepherd earned a B.S. in Family Environment from Iowa State University. She is not currently employed. Kris is not technically a new member, as she joined about ten years ago but was not active. She had first learned about our organization from her mother who had belonged to various branches. She hopes to be a more active participant this time and is looking forward to developing friendships.

Harpreet Vittal holds a B.A. in Political Science from Punjab University Chandigarh, India, and an MBA in Marketing from Punjab University Pahala. She could assist with the 4th of July Parade and Wildflower Run. She has expressed interest in Afternoon Books, Arts Outings, Evening Books, and Wine and Whine.

Ananya Vittal, Harpreet’s daughter, earned a B.S. in Data Analytics from Chapman University. She is currently employed at ServiceNow. Ananya could help with Community Action Grants, Local Scholarships, and 4th of July Parade.

Harpreet and Ananya learned about AAUW from the Wildflower Run a few years ago, and decided to join together to get involved to learn more about the community. Both are looking forward to meeting people and helping with the Run.
