40th Annual Wildflower Run

Our 40th anniversary invites a look back to 1984 when the first Wildflower Run (WFR) was organized and had 217 participants, all women and girls. The events were the 2k, 5k and the 10k races. The following year, 1985, who expressed anger at women running past their property? Read the answer on Elizabeth’s fascinating WFR history pages.  http://wildflowerrun.org/history/. The next year, 1986, we first held the WFR at Live Oak High School with the additions of a “Tot Trot” and a 440 yard dash for girls under age 6. Since then, we’ve continued with family orientated races complimented by the competitive USATF Certified 10k run.

As March 26th approaches, we’re back to the track for the Kids and Seniors 2K races at Live Oak High School. The popular 10K and 5K run, the 5K walk and 5K stroller events use the flat, fast, paved streets around the high school. Our unique running event focuses on community and family and our 2022 event was also a financial success. It has allowed AAUW-MH to allocate funds for community grants, leadership programs and scholarships for girls and women. Click here  http://www.aauwmh.org/2021-22-wildflower-fund-recipients/  to see what a difference we made in 2021-2022. As our only annual fundraiser, we encourage all AAUW members to volunteer. Tell your friends and acquaintances about the run and the contributions made to our community.

A commemorative 40th anniversary T-shirt is being released. As in past years stroller registrants receive, adorable baby T-shirts, and the 2K youth receive medals. There are age and place metals for adults, prize drawings are back and goody bags for all participants.
