Our branch members reflect the diversity in backgrounds that you would expect from members of an organization over 40 years old. Learn more about our members, including their varied backgrounds and interests, their contributions to AAUW and to the Morgan Hill community, and their motivations for joining an organization that promotes gender equity for women and girls.
Sue Berghoff
Sue Berghoff was an accomplished professional looking forward to retirement when she was diagnosed with lewy Body Dementia. Sharing her story as an awareness building tool, Sue and her husband started a foundation (now called the Susan & Charles Berghoff Foundation).
Jane Blissett
Jane Blissett was a teacher and reading specialist before joining AAUW Morgan Hill. An accomplished dancer and singer, she also choreographed AAUW’s flag routine for the annual 4th of July parade before she moved east to be near family.
Susan Brazelton
Susan Brazelton joined AAUW Morgan Hill after retiring as a PE teacher. Her passion is photography; she started the Morgan Hill Photography Club in 2008 and coordinates club volunteers to photograph AAUW Morgan Hill’s annual Wildflower Run.
Laura Brunton
Laura Brunton was a long time member of AAUW Morgan Hill and its first scholarship chair (starting in 1990). She was also an active volunteer with many other Morgan Hill organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis, and the Downtown Association.
Nancy Casey
Nancy Casey was a flight attendant in the 1950s but, always interested in politics, returned to university after her daughters were grown and earned a degree in Women’s Studies.
Barbara Cate
Barbara Cate was co-founder (in December, 1981) of AAUW Morgan Hill and its first president.
Sandy Clark
Sandy Clark was a long time member of AAUW, devoted to its ideals and goals. She served the branch in many capacities over the years, including as President and Leadership Development chair.
Mary Cox
Mary Cox hosted an annual AAUW summer barbecue for many years. While she initially joined AAUW Morgan Hill for its book group, as a clinical scientist, her focus has shifted to coordinating the branch’s scholarships for women in healthcare and STEM.
Alissa Crispin
Alissa Crispin is a teacher, an artist, and a social justice advocate. She is also a commissioner on the Santa Clara County Commission on the status of women.
Donna Dicker
Donna Dicker is a long term member of AAUW Morgan Hill. A former teacher and past president of the branch, her passion is scholarships for women and girls, and she was chair of AAUW Morgan Hill’s Scholarship Committee for many years.
Joan Ensign
Joan Ensign is a past president of AAUW Morgan Hill and a long time Bylaws committee member. A college athlete (volleyball and basketball) pre-Title IX, she is still an avid tennis player.
Nancy Foster
Nancy Foster was a charter member of AAUW Morgan Hill. She was instrumental in starting the branch’s first scholarship program (at Gavilan College).
Marilyn Gadway
Marilyn Gadway was a charter member of AAUW Morgan Hill.She is also founder of the annual Wildflower Run, established in 1984. Outside of AAUW, she established Morgan Hill’s YMCA.
Suman Ganapathy
Suman Ganapathy moved to Morgan Hill in in 2012. She has been on AAUW’s board, including as President, as well as volunteering with other Morgan Hill organizations such as the Downtown Association and SURJ.
Judy Garrett
Judy Garrett was a charter member of AAUW Morgan Hill and a nurse. She was passionate about education for women, saying “Education gives you power.”
Inger Govin
Inger Govin is a member of the Friday Writers interest group.
Jeanne Gregg
Jeanne Gregg was a charter member of AAUW Morgan Hill. She says “AAUW is a membership of individuals, and you can always find a role model for anything.”
Margo Hinnenkamp
Margo Hinnenkamp has had many positions with AAUW Morgan Hill, including President and, for many years, Hospitality Chair. She is very active in the Climate Education and Action Committee (CEAC).
Carol Holzgrafe
Carol Holzgrafe joined AAUW Morgan Hill in 1987. She has been one of AAUW California’s strongest supporters of Tech Trek, serving as camp director and state project coordinator.
Chris Hopwood
Chris Hopwood is originally from England. She is coordinator of AAUW Morgan Hill’s Sunday Gardeners interest group, has been in the board of the South Valley Symphony, and is involved in social justice activities.
Lauren Jenkins
Lauren Jenkins was passionate about science education and sharing her enthusiasm with girls. She established the AAUW Morgan Hill group GEMS (Girls Engaged in Math and Science) to give former Tech Trek campers the opportunity to continue with science experiences.
Barbara Jensen-Bailey
Barbara Jensen-Bailey was keenly interested in women’s issues and politics. She was exceptionally well read and a valued member of both the Evening Books and the Film interest group.
Bill Keig
Bill Keig devoted his life to education, especially the education of women. He worked in administration with MHUSD before his retirement. Bill joined AAUW Morgan Hill in 1987 and helped raise money for scholarships.
Judy Kinker
Judy Kinker joined AAUW Morgan Hill in 2000 after retiring from a career as a special education teacher She became chair of the branch’s Bylaws committee in 2002, serving in that position for an amazing 17 years.
Karen Kinsinger
Karen Kinsinger is a long time member of AAUW Morgan Hill, joining in 1985. A retired teacher, she has been involved with after-school tutoring as well as other community outreach projects.
Elizabeth Mandel
Elizabeth Mandel coordinates AAUW’s Evening Books interest group, created the branch websites, and has held several board positions, including president and five years as Wildflower Run Director. Outside of AAUW, she is on the board of South Valley Civic Theatre (SVCT).
Peggy Martin
Peggy Martin joined AAUW Morgan Hill in 2008 and quickly assumed leadership positions.. She is committed to the organization because of its mission of advancing gender equity. Peggy also serves on other Morgan Hill boards, such as the Morgan Hill Community Foundation.
Elena Moreno
Elena Moreno was a lifelong resident of Morgan Hill and an Honorary Life Member of AAUW. She served on the first Wildflower Run planning committee and give the run its name.
Lesley Miles
Lesley Miles is a local architect who advocates for sustainable architecture and incorporation of native, sustainable landscaping.
Kathy Chavez Napoli
Kathy Chavez Napoli his one of the founders of AAUW Morgan Hill’s DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) action group. She is also on the board of the Morgan Hill Historical Society and a Gavilan College Trustee.
Carol O’Hare
Carol O’Hare has a particular passion for literacy. In addition to various board positions with AAUW Morgan Hill, she has been president of the Friends of the Morgan Hill Library and was a key supporter in the building of a new library.
Barbara Palmer
Barbara Palmer was “almost a charter member”. She has held many roles with the branch, including President, Run Director (for 5 years), Membership VP, Wildflower Run Sponsor Chair, and more. Barbara is a member of AAUW’s Legacy Circle.
Donna Pettit
Donna Pettit was never at an AAUW Morgan Hill event without her beloved dog, Booker. Donna and Booker provided Animal Assisted Therapy to pediatric patients and their families.
Jean Pinard
Jean Pinard was an active member of AAUW Morgan Hill for many years, both on the board (as President and first Tech Trek coordinator) and later in interest groups such as Evening Books, Friday Writers, and Sunday Gardeners.
Faith Protsman
Faith Protsman served on the AAUW Morgan Hill board as Membership VP. She is a retired physician and former Chief of Staff at St. Louise Hospital.
Jenny Redfern
Jenny Redfern has served on the AAUW Morgan Hill board in many capacities such as President and Membership VP. Outside of AAUW she is a Master Gardener and plays the French Horn in the South Valley Symphony.
Joanne Rife
Joanne Rife is a retired journalist and a long time member of AAUW Morgan Hill. A lover of adventure and the outdoors, she has climbed Mt. Whtney and bicycled across the country. She instituted the Rowdy Outers interest group.
Margie Snively
Margie Snively retired from nursing and moved to Morgan Hill in 2014, volunteering for many local causes. She was Programs VP for AAUW Morgan Hill and also supported literacy programs, the library, SURJ, and more.
Gisela Steffe
Gisela Steffe immediately joined both AAUW Morgan Hill and the South Valley Symphony (where she played the violin) upon moving to Morgan Hill in 1992. She remained active with both until moving away, chairing the Afternoon Books interest group for many years.
Kathy Sullivan
Kathy Sullivan has played important roles with AAUW Morgan Hill’s Wildflower Run. Outside of AAUW, she was President of the Morgan Hill Historical Society for many years, working with the city on joint projects to ensure continued funding for the society’s buildings.
Linda Tarvin
Linda Tarvin first joined AAUW while living in Texas. She later became a charter member of AAUW Morgan Hill. Linda can be seen on the Wildflower Run course each year, strumming her ukulele as she encourages runners onward.
Marianne Thornton
Marianne Thornton was a charter member of AAUW Morgan Hill. Although she never served on AAUW’s board, she immediately became involved with the Wildflower Run when it started in 1984 and was responsible for donations and sponsors for many years.
Patti Trantow
Patti Trantow was a charter member of AAUW Morgan Hill. AAUW is important to her because it “supports political things I believe in, as well as fosters wonderful friendships and community.”
Elsa Walton
Elsa Walton is a retired English teacher. She is active in AAUW Morgan Hill’s Evening Books and Friday Writers interest groups.
Donna Weisblatt
Donna Weisblatt has a passion for education. With a PhD in education, She has done educational research and career consulting. Since retiring, she has facilitated providing classes for adults 50+ at the Morgan Hill CRC as well as helping with resources for seniors.
Carolyn Wilson
Carolyn Wilson was a member of AAUW Morgan Hill for 35 years before moving to Santa Cruz. She served the branch in a variety of ways, especially those that involved building community.
Beth Wyman
Beth Wyman first joined AAUW in Walnut Creek in 1959. She is a former mayor of Morgan Hill. A published author, she founded the branch’s popular Friday Writers interest group, She is also active in the Morgan Hill Historical Society.
