President's Message

Does anyone else feel like they’re holding their breath, unsure of what’s coming next? I’m doing my best to anchor myself by focusing on one thing I can control — like connecting with my awesome AAUW friends (and getting my President’s Message written for the newsletter!).

And let’s look at the good things that happened these last couple of months. The sold-out crowd for our 42nd Wildflower Run was a testament to how people want to help and get involved – even braving the cold, wet morning with smiles on their faces.

A hearty congratulations to Joy Safakish and Bobbie Erb for juggling the many moving parts involved and making this not only a very successful fundraiser for our branch, but an even more fun social event for the whole community.

Another bright spot for me was attending Lobby Days in Sacramento. Connecting with passionate, dedicated women from across the state truly lifted my spirits. It reminded me that, together, we can navigate whatever lies ahead. There’s important work happening right now at the state level — from protecting civil rights and access to health care, to placing thoughtful guardrails on AI, and more.

And in the months ahead, I hope you’ll join us for our May Program, where we’ll discuss the current state of Title IX for students and employees. Everyone is invited to attend our monthly board meetings – held the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the CRC. And as always, keep an eye on our weekly Sunday emails for updates and opportunities to get involved.

And if you’re looking for ways to get involved – the one thing you can do – please email me. We have lots of opportunities for members to help – from working on the weekly email to helping decorate our Fourth of July float.

As Kamala said, “Now is not the time to throw up our hands – now is the time to roll up our sleeves!”
