President's Message
Happy New Year! While it’s tempting to reflect on how once again our country failed to elect a woman for president, I prefer to focus on the future. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and work together to protect the rights and opportunities of all women and girls.
First, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hospitality committee, Margo Hinnenkamp and Karen MacDonald, for organizing a fantastic Holiday Lunch! It was wonderful to see so many of you there, enjoying delicious food and great company.
Looking ahead to the New Year, we have a full slate of exciting events. The Programs committee has arranged timely and thought-provoking events. First up in January, the Climate Education and Action Committee (CEAC) is bringing us an engaging panel discussion at the library on the topic “What Does it Take to Build a Sustainable Community?”. In February, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee will host a program at the Britton Student Union Building on “What is an American?”
Next, of course, don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Wildflower Run on March 30. This is our sole fundraiser of the year that supports all of our AAUW scholarships, grants, and programs at the local, state and national levels. We rely on everyone to pitch in to make it a success.
April brings our Lobby Days, an eye-opening opportunity to learn how our elected officials operate. I encourage everyone to participate and discover how AAUW collaborates with the members of our State Legislature.
Here’s to a beautiful new year, full of opportunity and possibility. Together, we can make a difference!
Krisse Boursier, President
