City Environmental Justice Initiative

AAUW Morgan Hill Partners with the City on Environmental Justice Initiative

Branch members Suman Ganapathy, Margaret McCann, Janet McElroy, Margo Hinnenkamp and Krisse Boursier joined Morgan Hill City Principal Planner Adam Paszkowski at the City Planning booth during the Chamber of Commerce’s Community Crossroads Autos & Artisans event on September 28 to inform the public about the City’s new Environmental Justice initiative.

Background – the AAAUW MH Connection

In April 2024 AAUWMH was invited to collaborate with the City on planning and supporting a new Environmental Justice Element addition to the City’s General Plan mandated by the state of CA. The goal is to address the health risks faced by disadvantaged communities by reducing pollution exposure, enhancing community resources, and improving overall public health. It will be a two to three year process.

We agreed to focus our efforts on assisting with the outreach and support aspects of the initiative by helping with community meetings to reach the section of the public that needs a helping hand. This is a valuable opportunity to get involved in the City and make a positive local impact.
